Limit to number of dorm/apartment dwellers on one lot?

I know that you can only have 4 apartments on a lot that playables can inhabit, but is there a limit to how many townies will live on one lot? On a similar note, is there a limit to the number of dormies on a single lot? Could I feasibly create a dorm with 50 residents?

As far as I can tell, apparently there is no limit to them. If there is it has to be pretty high because someone at MTS2 made 52 apartments and it worked.
