help needed with default eyes- still needed

SnootCB:
I'm attempting to make default replacement eyes for bigfoots and genies.  Problem is, most of good tutorials I've found assume the reader is making regular default replacements (for the 5 normal eyes) and provide templates to make it easier- but these templates do not, of course, include special creature eyes.  The one I'm trying to follow currently is here but the problem is that I've already gotten lost on step one:

1. GET THE NECESSARY VALUES
Open SimPE Open Sims07.package (or whatever package the files you are replacing are in).

I've never used SimPE for this type of work before so I have absolutely no idea where this Sims07.package thing is.  Will someone please help me out and point me in the right direction?

Blueblood:
yourdrive/Program Files/EA Games/EP the skin is from/TSData/Res/3D

Supernatural skins (except aliens) are different, though. The eyes are on the face textures, rather than separate eye files, so you'll just have to edit the eyes you want onto your default replacement skin if you have one. If you do not have a default replacement, then you'll have to go into the game files, extract the default face textures and add your new eyes to them.

SnootCB:
Thanks for your help.  I think I understand what your saying, but no doubt I'll be back later to whine about something else I can't find.  Thanks again.

EDIT:

I managed to finish all the steps in that tutorial, and something happened, but not what I was trying to make happen.  The genie face has definitely been replaced, but with a blurry, degraded version of the original face- with mystery grey eyes.  Not the original eyes, but not the eyes I was trying to replace, either (they were purple).  I'm doing a thorough search but so far nothing has come up.  Surely I'm not the only this has happened to?

Theo:
When you reach the "Build DXT" step, try using just one level. Thus, you'll end up with only one version of the image, which should ideally be 1024×1024.

SnootCB:
So if the largest texture provided by the game is 128x128, would that work OK or should I try to resize and edit it?  Or perhaps there is a larger version of the texture in one of the other Sims0#.package files.  Blah, this is more difficult than I thought it would be just from scanning various tuts.
