Counters wont "connect"

They do if they are turned the right way.
Really? I have noticed that some counters and islands connect just fine at a corner, but others (the most expensive base game ones... Chez Moi Country I think they are called) do not.
On the rare occasions I use islands, I will try to position them like this, for example:
I C C C
I
I think I've even tried:
C C C C
I
I
But the junction between I and C never seems to connect properly. What's infuriating is that sometimes a stove will connect when a counter won't. What am I doing wrong?

I think it has to do with the walls. Most counters won't connect to islands if there is an adjacent wall or something. I dunno. I read a building tutorial on the exchange about it once, but I can't remember the particulars.
gethane:
this is an illuminating thread. I've had the problem before of islands not connecting to counters when putting in dishwashers, etc, but had no idea move objects on would cause that.
Liz:
Huh, I have never once coaxed an Island to connect to a Counter. Now I'm gonna be compelled to go futz around in my sims' kitchens and see if I can find a wall/Counter/Island config that'll allow for it.
mommytotwo:
You can get islands to connect to counters if you place them like C C I I But that ends up looking stupid IMO, so I use and invisible island recolor to make it look seamless. I
