Mouse wheel just stopped working?

My wireless mouse hates my new laptop. The cursor runs away off the top right hand side of the screen. My USB mouse works just fine. (Both are optical.)
Now after reading this thread I think it may be because the new laptop only has USB ports on the right hand side. I always used to plug the dongle in behind the screen and now I cannot.

I use a small cardboard box - actually the box my wireless router came in - with a mousepad on top, for surfing in bed.

I got one of those at Kinko's for $10. You can try looking there if you live in the US.

Yup. Registered 10 minutes ago, and within 10 minutes had 3 messages in 3 threads, all identical. This one needs instant killing.
