What's wrong with my PC?
jsalemi:
I'm not sure I'm understanding your situation 100%, but be aware that AMD and Intel processors are NOT interchangeable -- the CPU slot and the support chips are entirely different. If you have a new motherboard with an AMD processor, than you can only replace it with another AMD. Same with your Intel motherboard -- only another Intel processor will do.
If I'm mistaken and you're not trying to swap processors, then never mind...
witch:
Only the latest Pentium core duos are faster than AMD dual cores as far as I understand it. I have an AMD dual core 4400 and she's a nice snappy processor. I've been AMD for years now and am very satisfied.
Another way to ground yourself is to keep the PC plugged in but not turned on, then keep one hand on the power supply if you want to touch anything else.
Charlotte:
Yes, I'll be keeping the AMD processor instead of swapping over the processor. I think maybe in my situation the athlon will be better than my old pentium.
It cost $170 for case, motherboard, and processor including postage and packaging, just have to wait for it now since it's down in Auckland and I'll remember those tips about grounding yourself - I was wearing a heavy woolly jumper while swapping things around :o - it's quite cold here. I'll turn the heater on next time ;D
Forgot to ask:
If I put in my current hardrive, which has got windows xp on it, it will be good to go right? I won't have to install xp again? Also what if the motherboard previously was running vista (does that make sense?) - will I run into problems? This is one of the reasons why I didn't just go into Noel Leemings to buy a new computer because I didn't want vista.
witch:
Possibly. Plug and Pray might find your new hardware, the chip shouldn't alter anything as far as I know. If you have a different mainboard or video card it may not be so easy.
Where are you North of Orcland that is cold?!?
Charlotte:
lol Plug and Pray, that really hits the nail on the head ;D
I'm in Whangarei - it was cold here yesterday, freezing last night, and hot today ???
