BV problem: Can't check in
Devilfish:
When my sim arrives at the hotel she can pick a room fine (but for some reason, sometimes it says Key.../Take key from Bittany) but can't actually walk up to the counter and check in (the bellboy dude can't be selected). When she leaves she simply doesn't pay the bill.
I took out my entire downloads folder to make sure it wasn't a hack, but the problem persists.
Any help would be lovely...

"Key / Take key" sounds like you may have an old door locking hack. Some of these let you assign "keys" to different sims. I believe all such hacks are outdated, and could be causing a problem.
Do you remember having one of these hacks?

yes it is an old hack for locking doors with keys. I had the same problem too just remove them all from your downloads.
